How To Get Festive

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but sometimes you just can't get into the festive mood, which can be very frustrating. I have came up with a list of activities you can do to get yourself feeling festive in no time.

Listen to Christmas Music

Whatever anyone tells you, it's never to early to listen to Christmas music. I usually start listening to Christmas songs on January 1st, but this might be because I can't accept the fact Christmas is over. I have wrote down a list of my favourite Christmas songs for you to listen to below.

Here are some tracks that will really get you in the mood:

Step into Christmas - Elton John

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day - Wizzard

Do They Know It's Christmas? - Band Aid

All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey

Last Christmas - Wham!

Fairy Tail Of New York - The Pogues

Mistletoe And Wine - Cliff Richard

Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Frank Sinatra

Watch a Christmas Movie

Watching Christmas movies is my favourite thing to do to get in the mood for Christmas. Christmas with the Kranks is my personal favourite, I love the Christmas decorations and lights which feature in the film. Watch a feel good Christmas film and I promise you will be feeling more Christmassy by the end of it.

Here are some of the must see Christmas movies:

Elf

Miracle on 34th Street

Christmas with the Kranks

Polar Express

Bad Santa

The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas

A Christmas Story

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

The Santa Clause

Jingle All The Way

Home Alone

Make some Christmas Treats

The kitchen is one of the best places to feel festive. Turn up the Christmas music and get baking with the family Christmas themed cookies and brownies will put a smile on anyone's face, even the Grinch wouldn't be able to resist one!

Take a trip out

Take a walk through your neighbourhood, the best time to go is in December as the Christmas lights will be up in most houses. Also make sure to take a trip out to the shopping areas in towns and cities, shops will be filled with festive gifts and covered in magical lights. You can do this anytime past Halloween as the shops will all be focused on Christmas. Take a moment to sit down in a coffee shop or bench and watch choirs singing hymns, bands playing Christmas music, shoppers buying Christmas gifts will get you in the spirit of Christmas.

Make a festive to do list

Compose a list of things to do during the Christmas period such as writing down a date to go Christmas shopping, making Christmas cookies, Christmas Caroling or going to see Santa. There are many Christmassy things you can do, just make sure you make time for them!

Go and see your local Christmas Tree lighting

Don't miss out on this one! When it's time your local area decide to put the Christmas Tree up that should mark the festive period. It's time to get excited. There will be hundreds of other people eagerly awaiting the lighting of the Christmas Tree with excitement, so why not join in on the fun?

Think about your Christmas decorations. EARLY!

Look online at images of other homes that are decorated for Christmas and take some inspiration to use for yours. Make sure you get your Christmas Decorations as early as possible as you want the experience to be enjoyable and not stressful if you leave it too late. Leaving it late will also affect the decorations you choose, take time to search for the best ones  and the ones which you like the most.

Wear a Christmas Sweater

Dig out your old Christmas Sweater. This will not only have you feeling festive, wearing a cosy Christmas themed sweater, but your family and friends may start feeling Christmassy too when they see you wearing one.
